KeyKatchTM

Monitors computer use in the home or the office
and insures computer usage policy compliance

Records over 65,000 Keystrokes

What is KeyKatchTM?

The KeyKatchTM is a tiny recording device
that clips onto your keyboard cable.
It's used to log all keystrokes typed on the computer.
It doesn't require any external power source
and it installs in less than 10 seconds.

Why use the KeyKatchTM as opposed to a software keylogger?

KeyKatchTM is easier to install than software.

KeyKatchTM can be installed on a system
where the password is unknown.

KeyKatchTM can be used to record on one computer,
and read out on another.

KeyKatchTM can be used with any PC operating system
(Windows, OS2, Linux, FreeBSD, etc.)

KeyKatchTM will also log BIOS passwords
before boot up, software programs
can't record BIOS passwords.

KeyKatchTM uses no system resources.

Simple to Install

One end of the KeyKatchTM plugs into
the keyboard socket on the back of the computer.
The other end of the KeyKatch
TM plugs into
the plug on the end of the keyboard cable.

The miniaturized circuitry of the KeyKatchTM is state of the art.

The KeyKatchTM records all keystrokes, and stores them
in a non-volatile memory. Even if the device is unplugged,
or your computer is turned off, the KeyKatch
TM
will continue to store the information.

The KeyKatchTM can be used to monitor computer activities,
and can also be useful for recovering from system lock-ups
and power losses in some situations.

KeyKatchTM allows system adminstrators
to recover changed passwords

KeyKatchTM helps administrators in assessing
and repairing any damage caused by intruders

KeyKatchTM allows security personnel
to insure computer usage compliance

KeyKatchTM provide cost-effective protection
to families and businesses
from unauthorized computer activities.

KeyKatchTM is a "must-have" tool
for security and investigative personnel

The U.S. Department of Justice recommends that a banner notice
indicating the keystroke monitoring policy be placed on all
computer systems that will be conducting keystroke monitoring.
The banner should give clear and unequivocal notice
to intruders that by signing on and using the system,
they are expressly consenting to having their keystrokes monitored
or recorded during their computer session.
If an unauthorized intruder downloads an authorized user's file,
keystroke monitoring will record both the intruder's download command
and the name of the compromised accessed file.

How KeyKatchTM Works

fig. 1.1

fig. 1.2

KeyKatchTM is probably the simplest computer device you've ever used.

Just plug it in and it starts working! When you want to view the captured data just type the password... That's it!
For the skeptical, we've included these detailed step-by-step instructions (also included in with your KeyKatchTM):

     I.            The KeyKatchTM is "plugged in" between any standard keyboard cable and the keyboard jack on the back of a desktop or tower computer (See fig 1.1).

II.            As the computer user types information, KeyKatchTM captures all characters and spacebars that are entered via the keyboard up to 64Kb (approximately 65,000 characters).

III.            At anytime the KeyKatchTM administrator can reteive the captured keystrokes by either typing the KeyKatchTMadministrator password at the monitored computer, or the administrator may remove the KeyKatchTM and view the captured keystrokes later from this or another computer.

IV.            To view the captured data, The administrator opens a text editing program (like MS NotepadŽ, MS WordŽ or even an e-mail client) and enters the KeyKatchTM administrator password. This activates the KeyKatchTM Administration mode and display the KeyKatchTM menu (fig. 1.2). The admintrator then types "1" (one) and all the character data is displayed on the screen.

     V.            Typing "2" (two) erases the memory without prompting. The data viewed can be saved by saving the text document that was created as you viewed the captured data in your text editor.

VI.            Typing "3" (three) will allow you to change the KeyKatchTM administrator password. You will first be asked to provide a new password, then you will be asked to confirm it.
WARNING: If you forget or lose you password, your KeyKatch
TM will be rendered useless.
Be careful not to use a password that would be inadvertantly typed by the user. Passwords can be numeric and are case-sensitive so passwords containing numbers and odd sequences of upper and lower case letters would be most effective, like cOrN4Cob or 487aTtic.

  1. Typing "4" (four) disables or enables KeyKatchTM depending on its current status. The KeyKatchTM is set to "enabled" from the factory.
  1. Typing "5" (five) activates the NETPatrol Output function. This function causes KeyKatchTM to search its entire memory for occurences of "http", "www", ".com", and ".net". As matches are found these items are found on the screen.
  1. Typing "6" (six) allows you to search for any string of characters up to 10 characters in length.
  1. Typing "7" (seven) or any character other than 1-6 exits the administration function and returns the system to the normal status.
